We should be offended that the PA Department of General Services chose Labor Day weekend to announce that the $400 million construction project at Graterford Prison in Skippack, PA will be built using a union-only Project Labor Agreement (PLA). This PLA will preclude 75 percent of area construction workers who choose not to join a union from working on this taxpayer-funded job. What a way to honor hard-working construction employees in our area.
We have a chance to stop this PLA and are asking you and your employees to join our effort in opposition to this discriminatory practice. We need you to step up so your voice and the voice of your employees can be heard. We would like you to consider the following options:
1. Write a letter to your State Representative and Senator
2. Make an appointment and meet with your State Representative and Senator
3. Provide a testimonial as to why a union-only PLA on Graterford is unfair to you as a contractor, taxpayer and to your employees.
We ask that you distribute this message to your employees, your family, your friends and ask them to make sure our message is heard. By working together, we will win this war for fundamental fairness and the opportunity to work in our own backyards.
